Phoenix Witness Project

Sponsored by the UU District of Metro NY Board of Trustees

Help send youth and young adults to GA or the Living Legacy Pilgrimage!

General Assembly  ~ June 19-23, 2013  ~ Louisville, Kentucky
Living Legacy Pilgrimage ~ September 21-28, 2013

What is it?    With the Unitarian Universalist Association’s General Assembly in Phoenix AZ in 2012 being a special “Justice GA,” the Metro NY District Board of Trustees began to collect funds to see as many youth and young adults as possible participate. We would like to continue to support youth and young adults to attend future General Assemblies and the Living Legacy Pilgrimage.

What is the Living Legacy Pilgrimage?    The Living Legacy Pilgrimage is a journey to meet the people, hear the stories, and visit the sites that changed the world. The Pilgrimage is much more than a civil rights history tour. In addition to visiting historic sites, we meet veterans, many of them unsung heroes and foot soldiers of the civil rights movement. Additionally, we spend time exploring what today’s racism, white privilege, and barriers to equality look like in the Southern towns we visit -- and in our own hometowns. As a spiritual pilgrimage, we reflect on what we experience together so when we each return home we can apply what we have learned to make a difference in today's world.

How can you help?   You have an opportunity to contribute to a scholarship fund to help send youth and young adults to GA 2013. Congregations and individuals will be asked to contribute to the scholarship fund via special offering plate collections and online through Paypal. Checks can be made out to UUDMNY, with “Phoenix Witness Project” in the memo line, and mailed to:

Without the grant I received, I would have not been able to go to GA. GA was an experience that had a profound impact on my life and I hope other youth are able to experience GA in the future. -- Jamie McKaie
