. . . The Metro NY District Board and the UUA Board have both voted to approve the request of Dorothea Dix UU Community (Groveville NJ) to transfer its membership to the Joseph Priestly District.

. . . Young adults from around the District gathered October 16 for a successful Vision Con on October 16, culminating in the creation of a mission statement.

. . . The Community Unitarian Church in White Plains engaged in a covenanting process for excellence in religious education.

. . . First Universalist Church of Southold (NY) serves meals to the homeless as part of an East End ecumenical effort.

. . . The UU Congregation of Central Nassau(Garden City NJ) expressed thanks to their new minister, the Rev. Hope Johnson, in a very special way.

. . . Michael O'Neill reports on a polling place incident in Palm Beach FL involving the police and two members of the UU Congregation of the South Fork (Water Mill NY).

. . . Research shows a direct correlation between visitors who make friends and those that become active church members. Those that become active members average 7 friends each.

It Bears Repeating!

The District Board has established the Award for Excellence in Religious  Education, to be presented annually to an outstanding  religious educator in the District.

The time is now! to nominate worthy UU individuals and congregations for the 2005 District Awards, or deserving students for the 2005 District Scholarships.

The Fall 2004 Chalice Lighters Call will help the Fourth Universalist Society (Manhattan) make significant accessibility renovations to their facility. Read a special message from the Society's board president.

Want to present a workshop/lecture or event at GA in Ft Worth? Each District can sponsor up to two work-shops presented by congregations. The District Board will accept proposals up to November 22. For more information and to download an application form, click here.

The 2004-05 District Directory, part of  the District's online Contact Information System, is now available at a  password-protected website. Contact your congregation's Minister, Board  President, Director of Religious Education, or Administrator if you'd  like a  copy.

 
Transitions and Milestones
 
Tuli Patel has joined the staff at the Unitarian Church in Summit (NJ) as Acting Director of Religious Education.
 
Greg Jones has joined the staff of the Community Church of New York UU (Manhattan) as Administrator.
 
Melanie Mashburn, Director of Religious Education at the Unitarian Church of All Souls (Manhattan), has completed five Renaissance Modules and will be acknowledged with a certificate and pin.
 
The Rev. Alison Miller was ordained by the Unitarian Church of All Souls Manhattan) on October 17.
 
The Rev. Paul Ratzlaff was installed by the UU Fellowship of Huntington (NY) on November 7.
