JOB DESCRIPTION: |

|
We seek a candidate with a thorough understanding of and
enthusiasm for sharing our UU faith.
|
| |
|
SNUUC is a growing, friendly, welcoming congregation located in
Freeport on the south shore of Long Island. We are a 145+ member
congregation, and our Religious Education program serves 51 children
and youth from preschool through high school. |
| |
| HOURS/SALARY/COMPENSATION: |
| Hours: 15 hours, or 4.5
units, per week |
| Compensation: Salary will be
in accordance with UUA salary guidelines for religious education. In
addition, professional expenses and dues will be reimbursed up to
$1,000. |

|
|
RESPONSIBILITIES may include,
but are not limited to: |
|
ADMINISTRATIVE:
|
 |
Meeting monthly with the Religious Education Committee.
|
 |
Meeting with the minister on a regular basis and with the
Board of Trustees as requested. |
 |
Submitting a monthly report. |
 |
Recruiting volunteer teachers for RE classes.
|
 |
Keeping records on enrollment and attendance.
|
 |
Overseeing the RE budget in cooperation with the RE
chairperson(s). |
 |
Writing a monthly column for the newsletter “The Open Line”. |
|
|
|
|
SUPERVISORY:
|
 |
Supervising RE classes and youth program.
|
 |
Supervising SNUUC child-care on Sundays and special
occasions. |
 |
Providing support for volunteer teachers, facilitating
teacher orientation and training, providing ideas and
materials for teachers throughout the year.
|
|
|
|
|
CURRICULA:
|
 |
Selecting and adapting curricula to meet the needs of the
children and youth. |
 |
Welcoming newcomers and interpreting UU RE philosophy and
curricula. |
|
|
|
|
WORSHIP:
|
 |
Creating and presenting an age-appropriate worship for the
children. |
 |
Working collaboratively with the RE committee and minister
to create intergenerational services.
|
 |
Designing and implementing holiday programs and special
events. |
|
|
|
|
PROFESSIONAL:
|
 |
Acting as liaison to the Long Island Area Council and
disseminating information regarding programming.
|
 |
Attending conferences and workshops as part of continuing
education. |
|
|
|
|
QUALIFICATIONS: |
 |
Undergraduate degree |
 |
Knowledge of Unitarian Universalist principles and history
|
 |
Experience as a DRE or in a related field such as teaching,
child development or human services
|
|
|
|
|
